The Israel Jordan Tour Days: 11 | Nights: 10 | Operates: Weekly | Starts: Sundays
Welcome to beautiful Israel! We will arrive at Ben Gurion airport and be met and assisted by a Shalom Journeys representative before proceeding to passport control. Following passport control, we will be transferred to our hotel in coastal Tel Aviv. Depending on our arrival time, we will enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. A day to rest up before we embark on the Israel Jordan Tour of 11 Days.
EVENING: DINNER AT HOTEL
BREAKFAST. Following our delicious breakfast, we will journey along the coastal highway to the ancient Roman capital, Caesarea. We will visit the excavations of the Crusader city and the Roman port, its aqueduct and the amphitheater that has been recently restored. Proceed to Muhraka, the site of confrontation between Elijah and the prophets of Baal; enjoy the spectacular view of the Jezreel Valley and the lower Galilee. Our tour proceeds to Megiddo, which has been identified as the site of the battle of Armageddon.
Onto Acre to visit the remarkable underground Crusader City and crypt; walk through the Old City recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site, explore the local, market and harbor.
BREAKFAST. After a short tour of Tiberias, we will enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Our tour proceeds to visit the Yigal Alon center where the “Jesus boat” is located, which is an ancient fishing boat from the 1st century, is on display. We will continue to Capernaum, home to Jesus, to see the ruins of the synagogue and octagonal Church of St. Peter. Next stop is in Tabgha, the site of the Miracle of Fish and Loaves, to visit the Church of Multiplication with its 4thcentury mosaic floor. On to the Mount of Beatitudes, the place where Jesus delivered the sermon on the mount. Our final destination on today’s tour is the Banias Springs where we will tour the Golan Heights region.
BREAKFAST. Following breakfast, we will drive to Cana to visit the Wedding Church, where Jesus performed his first miracle turning water into wine. We’ll continue to Nazareth to visit the Church of Annunciation, Joseph’s workshop and Mary’s well. Our tour will proceed to Yardenit, the baptismal site on the Jordan river (robe rentals available on site). Continuing on, we will stop at Beit Shean to visit the newly excavated Roman city amphitheater. Our tour today will end with a scenic drive along the Jordan valley towards the ancient city of Jerusalem.
BREAKFAST. Following breakfast, we will start the day with a magnificent panoramic view from the Mount of Olives. Our tour will proceed to the Old City of Jerusalem. Here we will visit the Tomb of King David and the Room of Last Supper on Mt. Zion. From there we continue forward to enter the walled city and walk through the newly restored Jewish quarter. Some of the sites include the Roman Cardo, the Herodian quarter and most notably the Western Wall. Moreover, we will walk along the Via Delarosa to the Church of Holy Sepulchre. Next, we will drive to the Garden Tomb and enjoy its beautiful gardens and peaceful ambiance.
BREAKFAST. We start our day with a drive to Ein Karem where we will visit the Church of Visitation. Our tour will proceed to Yad Vashem, the memorial to the Holocaust. Visit Israel Museum, the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea scrolls are housed, and the miniature model of Jerusalem as it was during the Second Temple period. Proceed to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. We will visit Shepherds’ field, and walk through Manger Square to visit the remarkable Church of Nativity. Return to Jerusalem.
PM: DINNER AT HOTEL
BREAKFAST. Our journey continues through the Judean hills to the Qumran caves, where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. From here we continue along the shores of the Dead Sea to Massada, the last stronghold of the Jews after the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 A.D. We will ascend Massada by cable car and explore the mountain fortress built by King Herod. Some notable sites include the remains of the walls, water cistern and Herod’s Palace.
We will descend by cable car and continue to the Dead Sea. Which is considered the lowest point on earth; take the opportunity to float in the unsinkable water. To enjoy all it has to offer, cover yourself with the mineral-rich mud, believed to have therapeutic effects.
BREAKFAST. Drive from Jerusalem to the Sheikh Hussein border crossing for procedures to enter Jordan. Proceed to Jerash – the city of the Decapolis, located about 45km north of Amman in the fertile heights of the Gilad. Visit the ancient Roman city with colonnaded streets, the baths and the hill of the top Temple etc. Drive to Amman for a panoramic city tour of the Jordanian capital. Check-in to our Amman, Jordan hotel.
Breakfast. After early breakfast, leave the hotel and travel south on the road to Wadi Musa, the modern village of Petra. Walk, or ride on horseback, to the “Siq” (canyon) and then on foot into Petra, known as “Sela Edom” or red rock city, the ancient capital of the Nabateans from the 3rd century B.C. to 2nd Century A.D. Visit the most interesting monuments such as the Treasury, El Khazneh (a tomb of a Nabatean king) then the field of tombs, obelisks, the altar, (Al Madhbah) – from this point you can view the whole of the rock city, then back to Wadi Musa village.
BREAKFAST. Drive to Madaba to see the ancient mosaic map of the Holy Land and ruins of historical sites. Continue about 10kms. to Mount Nebo, from where Moses viewed the Promised Land. From there you will see the Jordan Valley, Jericho, and the Dead Sea etc. Visit the remains of the Byzantine church with a mosaic floor. Drive to the border and onwards to Tel Aviv.
EARLY BREAKFAST. Following our last breakfast and after making lifelong memories of Israel, we will be transferred to Ben Gurion Airport for our departure back home.
